How to translate your website with Weglot
Translating your website into multiple languages with Weglot takes just a few simple steps.
Step 1: Account setup and project creation
The first thing you want to do is create a Weglot account. This is easily done on the Weglot official website and only requires an email, even if you want to try the premium version.
Once you have verified your email address, you can log into your Weglot account. From there, you’ll be asked to provide a project name and select a website technology.
The great thing about Weglot is that it works on multiple small business platforms. While we love WordPress, this translation solution also works for platforms like Drupal, BigCommerce, Shopify, and Squarespace, and more.

Remember, you need to choose a platform before you can translate your website content. In this example we are using WordPress. However, if you’re on any other platform, check out Weglot’s installation guides and learn how to get started with your small business.
Step 2: Install and activate the Weglot plugin
Next, you need to install and activate the Weglot plugin on your website. To do this, go to Plugins > Add new in the WordPress dashboard. Find “Weglot” and click Install now then activate.
Next, get the API key from your Weglot account to configure the plugin and get it working.
Also, choose the current language of your website and the languages you want to translate your website into.
click save Changes.
Step 3: Check the language switcher on the front end of your website
Once you have configured the Weglot plugin, you will see a success message and an invitation to check out the language switcher which will now appear on your website.

Step 4: customize the Weglot language switcher
The nice thing about Weglot is that it can be used as a plug-in set-and-forget-it plugin. However, if you want to add a small customization to your language switcher, you can.
In Weglot you can customize things like:
- Whether the button is a dropdown
- If you want the flag to appear in the button
- The type of flag that appears in the switcher rectangle mat (matte), rectangle glossy, square, circle
- Specifies whether the name of the language should be displayed
- The location of the language switcher on your website
- Custom CSS
In addition, you can configure, for example, whether to redirect users based on their browser language, translate emails, allow users to search in the language they are using and finally only allow your administrators to view the translations.
Step 5: manage your translations

As great as automatic translators are, there must be some mistakes. Fortunately, you can manually edit all of your translations right from your Weglot account.
To do this, first log into your Weglot account. Here you can see what plan you are on, how many translated words you have used so far, and how many pageviews you have. If you’re using Weglot’s free trial, you can also easily upgrade from the homepage of your Weglot account.
To manually review and edit translations, click Translations > Manually checked words. Here you can see every word on your website that has been translated. If you find something is wrong, just type in the correct translation manually.
If you’d rather edit on the front end of your website, click Translations > Visual editor and then Start editing.
From there, click on the text you want to change and then click the blue edit icon. Make your manual changes in the fields.
When you’re done, click okay.
Finally, Weglot gives you control over which parts of your website are actually translated. Under Translation exclusionsYou can exclude certain pages or parts of a website from translation. This is helpful because Weglot automatically translates all content on your website correctly.
To exclude something from the translation, simply click on Add rule and enter the url you want to exclude.
Use the other option labeled to exclude sections of a page Excluded blocks.
