If you are new to the job market or looking for change, put yourself in research mode. Go beyond a quick Google search and delve deep into the basics of a job role, the types of companies in the industry, and whether the jobs suit your professional needs.

Important barriers to finding your dream job
Trust and a lack of knowledge are typical obstacles that hold people back when looking for a job.
“I have no idea what my dream job is!” or “I don’t know how to find it; it’s just not attainable. “Sounds familiar?
It’s difficult because it’s confusing. It sounds like it is easy, but in reality it is a big decision with multiple conflicts. We are in conflict with our desires – – Passion vs. Skill vs. show me the money. Then there is the conflict of worries – – worrying about uncertainty, change and failure.
For many people it remains indefinitely to find their ideal job indefinitely. There is no real sense of urgency, partly because people are hesitant, confused, or afraid of where to start. People are so afraid of doing something wrong that they don’t put the work into getting it right. Along with all of this uncertainty and confusion, there is also the fact that a lot of career counseling is terrible and will make you more confused than ever.
The power to get specific
Researching an old job is a good start, but to really dig deep into the various roles out there, you have to be specific.
You may already have some vague ideas about what type of roles sound interesting to you, but you may not necessarily know the pros and cons. To make your research specific, take one of your job ideas and start with an overarching view of the role.
It can be as simple as entering a search term like “introduction to” [job role]. ‘Once you have a basic understanding of the job, your job isn’t done. This is just the beginning, my friend. It’s time to get detailed. And the only way to do that is to be specific and ask the right questions.
W.What is the workload in an average week compared to a busy week? Is there any further training or further development? How are the salaries? What types of companies have this role? And so on.
Be careful in your research to get specific results.
Identify what is important to you in a dream career
It’s not just about the job role itself. It’s about you. To be selfish. Yes, focus on your skills and experience, but also go beyond that. List what is important to you in your career – personally and professionally. Dig deep.
People look for different things in a job. Some are looking for professional development or high salaries. Others are looking for ways to use their creativity, and some value work-life balance. Knowing what is most important to you and figuring out your career values is key to finding your final landing spot.
Of course, you can take an online personality test, but these can be vague and false. This self-discovery has to come from you personally. What kind of work environment do you thrive in? Do you hate office politics, large competition teams or long hours? Maybe you prefer to work independently or are more of a team player.
All of these career values and expectations for a role / company need to be incorporated into your research. The idea of a job might sound interesting, but you are not addressing other aspects of working in such companies. There’s nothing wrong with that. This exercise is meant to exclude roles as well as the correct one.
Step-by-step guide to researching your dream career
The key to finding your ultimate goal career is good research. This goes beyond personality tests and snapshots of career summaries on construction sites.

Step one: choose three job roles
The first step is to write down a list of potential jobs that you may be interested in. We call this the cloud technology. WrWrite down any career or job title that you have been interested in, even if it only comes to mind. Then visit LinkedIn and other job websites to view job descriptions. If something pops out, write that idea down too. Also, think about the skills you already have and look for careers that suit them. Are you creative Google something like “best career for creatives”.
When you have your ideas listed, choose the most attractive ones and move on to step two.
Step two: research each role
The next step is to spend time on your new potential job roles. Aim for at least an hour of solid research on each job title you choose. During this lesson, learn and absorb everything you can know about the role. This is where you want to find answers to the specific questions you had before.
- What is everyday work?
- What is the career path?
- Do you need qualifications?
- What is the average salary?
- What is the corporate culture for typical roles like this?
The more precisely you can deal with these questions, the better. Learn more about introducing snapshots into a role. It is good to learn the positive and negative aspects in advance. At some point in your research, you may find that a particular job is 100% not for you. Get away and move on to the next idea.
After doing this exercise, decide if this is what you want love these jobs and whether you can receive these jobs.
Step three: prioritize your job titles
When you have three job roles that you still want to work towards, prioritize them. At this point in your research, you should have a better understanding of which of the three topics you are most interested in and why. Remember, we’re brainstorming. Don’t worry if one of them doesn’t turn out to be a successful dream career.

Yes, they are busy people, but with the right communication skills, you can get their attention and get them over.

That may sound like a lot of work. It is. However, it pays to find a career that makes you feel happy and fulfilled. Getting the basics right now is difficult, but having insight into and understanding of various job roles and companies is invaluable in your dream career search.
