What’s the Minimal Wage in Little Rock, Arkansas?

Did you know that Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, was not born in Little Rock, Arkansas? Clinton was actually born in Hope, Arkansas, a small town about 100 meters southwest of Little Rock. The cheesedog, or a hot dog with cheese in it, was made in Little Rock in 1956. Little Rock was briefly called the “Arkopolis” Pedestrian Bridge in the United States in 1921. If you’re planning on moving to Little Rock, knowing these things can be helpful (as a conversation icebreaker anyway). However, the most important thing to know is the Little Rock minimum wage.

The minimum wage in Little Rock

Now I’ve started this article by sharing some quirky facts about the town of Little Rock, but I’ve done it as an informational icebreaker.

Moving to a new city is a big undertaking and shouldn’t be done on a whim. You are essentially transplanting your life into a new city. If you have a family, moving to a new city can also be a very daunting and scary process.

Before moving to a new city, do a check on your personal finances. How much money did you save? Do you have enough money to surprise you until you find a job?

Have you started researching the local job market in the city you are planning to move to?

The minimum wage in Little Rock is $ 10 an hour but will increase to $ 11 an hour on January 1, 2021.

Is that enough for you and your family to move on in a new city? Another thing to consider is the cost of living in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Subsistence level

The Little Rock Minimum Wage is a federal minimum payment amount for employees. Certain employees, such as independent contractors, are not necessarily eligible for a minimum wage.

However, a minimum wage is not necessarily the same as a living wage.

A living wage is a salary that you must earn to live comfortably in a city. A minimum wage, the salary you legally earn, and a living wage, the salary you need to live comfortably, are not the same thing.

At Little Rock, the living wage for one person is $ 11.18 an hour, or about $ 23,200 a year.

If you are a single parent and have three children, you must earn at least $ 33 an hour.

Two working parents with three children in Little Rock would have to earn at least $ 18 an hour to receive a livable wage.

Higher minimum wages

If you can’t really adjust to a new living budget based on the Little Rock minimum wage, then perhaps you should consider your options.

Here are some cities with higher minimum wages:

  • New York City – $ 15.25
  • San Francisco – $ 16.07
  • San Jose – $ 15.25
  • Seattle – $ 16.39
  • Washington, DC – $ 15

Keep in mind, however, that the living wage in these cities is relatively higher as the cost of living is also higher.
